The region recently witnessed multiple spells of heavy snowfall. The 100 KM stretch from Manali to Darcha is now open with precautions as its still slippery at some places. Over 200 KM stretch of the road is blocked completely with the snow. However, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is continuously removing snow from lower areas. The snow clearance on Darcha-Padum road is also underway. The Shinkula pass is expected to open to traffic (only local residents of Zanskar) by mid April. 28 February 2025: Season's heaviest snowfall blocked entire length of the Manali-Leh highway beyond Manali. The road, which was already buried under 1 to 10 ft thick blanket of snow, received another 1 to 5 ft deep fresh snow. The weather is expected to remain clear on March 1 and 2, but more snowfall is expected on March 3 and 4. There are no chances of opening of Leh Manali road in March while it's very difficult in April. So, like every year, the road is expected to open in May. 16 January 2025: Another spell of snowfall has added to the thickness of snow accumulated on the road along Leh-Manali highway which is completely closed for traffic movement. The highway will now reopen in May after Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will clear the snow. The Leh-Srinagar highway is also blocked following snowfall at Zojila pass, Drass, and Sonmarg areas. The road can reopen for 4X4
