Traffic movement, however, will depend on weather conditions. Always check local conditions and advisories to know the road/weather condition. Vehicles may not be allowed in case of snowfall on mountain passes along the road. Meanwhile, Srinagar-Leh road is open for both-way traffic. 12 May 2026: Border Roads Organisation (BRO) today connected Manali with Leh as snow clearance works completed from both sides. A "Golden Handshake" ceremony was organised at Sarchu where officials from Border Roads Task Force (BRTFs) from Manali and Leh shook hand to mark completion of seasonal snow clearance. BRO's vehicles were flagged off. But, the road is not open for civilians as some stretches, with 5 to 15-foot high stretches, are still congested. BRO officials said civil administration will decide when the road should be opened for civilians. Civil administration/police will also be responsible for traffic management. The Manali-Leh road remains blocked with snow for 7 months from October to May. BRO's two task forces clear snow from both sides of the highway. This operation completes in May. Now officials from civil administration, police, and BRO will conduct a recce of the road. If it is found safe for traffic movement, the orders to open it will be issued. The traffic is expected to be allowed within a week. 07 May 2026: The Manali-Leh road is still closed as snow clearance works by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are underway.
