As Zanskar valley in Ladakh is a new tourist hotspot due to its sensational and mind-boggling places like Drang Drung Glacier, Pensi La Pass, Gonbo Rangjon, Phugtal Monastery, Sani Monastery, Stongdey gompa, Karsha gompa, Padum etc, the Manali-Darcha-Padum road has become a major link to the Zanskar valley. We shall try to update this page as frequently as it will be possible for us. 08 May 2026: The Padum-Shinkula-Darcha road, which connects Ladakh with Himachal, is open. Tourists can travel from Manali to Zanskar valley or Manali to Leh via Zanskar valley. However, police have issued advisory that only 4X4 (four-wheel-drive) vehicles will be allowed near Shinku La pass. All kinds of vehicles are permitted to go till mid-way of Darcha-Shinkula road. 25 April 2026: The Manali - Darcha - Shinkula - Padum (Zanskar) road is open only for 4X4 vehicles. The area near Shinku La is extremely slippery due to snow and deposit of ice on road surface. Travellers are advised to use anti-skid snow chains on their tyres. 15 March 2026: The Manali - Atal tunnel - Keylong - Jispa - Darcha - Shinkula - Gonbo Rangjon - Padum (Zanskar) road is blocked following multiple spells of snowfall. 12 March 2026: The Darcha-Padum road is open for 4X4 vehicles with precaution. 16 Sept 2025: The Manali - Darcha - Shinkula - Padum (Zanskar Valley) road is open. The Padum - Kargil road via Pensi La pass and Suru is also open. The Padum to Leh via Wanla is open. 02 Sept 2025: The Darcha-Shinku La - Padum road is blocked following flash floods.
