On this post, we shall keep you updated about the status of the Manali-Darcha-Shinkula pass – Padum (Zanskar Valley) road status. As Zanskar valley in Ladakh is a new tourist hotspot due to its sensational and mind-boggling places like Drang Drung Glacier, Pensi La Pass, Gonbo Rangjon, Phugtal Monastery, Sani Monastery, Stongdey gompa, Karsha gompa, Padum etc, the Manali-Darcha-Padum road has become a major link to the Zanskar valley. We shall try to update this page as frequently as it will be possible for us.
9 August 2024: The Darcha-Padum road is now open.
4 August 2024: Darcha-Shinkula-Padum road is closed after a flashflood damaged a major bridge on the road, 14 km from Darcha. Restoration of the bridge for traffic movement is expected to take 4-5 days.
28 May 2024: The Darcha – Padum road is open for light vehicles.
16 May 2024: Manal-Darcha-Shinkula-Padum-Leh road is opened for one way traffic between Darcha and Padum on alternate day.
29 April 2024: More snowfall on higher reaches has blocked the Padum Darcha road.
22 April 2024: The Padum Darcha road is open for one way traffic with four-wheel drive vehicles and snow chains on tyres.
25 March 2024: While Darcha-Padum stretch of the Darcha-Padum-Nimmu road is still closed due to accumulation of over 20ft of snow at Shingola pass, the BRO has succeeded in achieving breakthrough in completing the Nimmu-Padum road construction today. However, the road is still under construction and can be fit for vehicles by end of the year or in 2025 after widening and blacktopping. Achieving connectivity on Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road from Leh to Zanskar to Lahaul near Manali has marked beginning of a new era of socio economic development of the Zanskar region. N-P-D road is not just about infrastructure and transportation; its about bridging the gap between aspirations and opportunities, its about empowerment and commitment for a better future of Zanskar. It is a testament of BRO’s commitment in shaping a future that is not only brighter but also more connected and inclusive for the entire region of Ladakh. Soon, tourists can travel to Zanskar valley from Manali or from Kargil or from Leh (via Nimmu) or from Wanla near Lamayuru. Tourists can also travel between Manali and Leh or Kargil via this near road via Shinkhula pass and Padum.
9 March 2024: More snowfall in the higher regions has triggered closure of the Manali-Padum-Darcha road which is expected to reopen in late April or May month.
9 January 2024: Heavy snowfall at Shinkula pass has blocked the Darcha-Padum road for all vehicular traffic.
