Chadar Trek 2025

The Chadar trek in 2025 is all set to begin from January 13. The date has been decided following a Pre-Chadar recce conducted on January 10 by different government and non-government departments. The beginning of the chadar trek will also depend on weather conditions.

As climate change is being blamed for thin layer of ice on Zanskar river, which generally breaks and is unsafe, the chadar trek’s dates are not decided in advance. The local authorities with help of local adventure association, travel agents and tourism department carry out recce to check the safety of the trekkers and finalise the dates.

Ladakh administration issue SOPs for Chadar Trek 2025

The administration has issued standard operation procedures (SOPs) for safety of trekkers/tourists. The trekkers will have to stay in Leh and undergo acclimatisation in Leh for the first two day. They can go for medical check-up on the third day and can go for trek on the fourth day.

Travel agency organising Chadar trek should be registered and all details should be furnished in the available forms. Ids of all the trekkers including their all the details should be available. Operators should provide details of all the porters, helpers, cooks and guides. Travel agents will ensure that all the trekkers have required equipment and gears with them and firewood should be taken from Leh; should not be collected en-route.

Drivers will ensure that they keep oxygen cylinder in their vehicle all the time and all drivers all trained in first aid and CPR. Wildlife department will provide green bags to bring back the trash.

Not more than 10 groups should be allowed in a day and each group should not have more than 10 trekkers. The trekkers will be allowed only if they have high altitude and trekking insurance with them besides medical report.

If any tourist, travel agent/operator or taxi operator violates any provision of the SOP, a fine of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 will be slapped; while repeated violation will be fined with Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.
