Leh-Srinagar road is expected to open in April with some restrictions. 28 March 2025: The Manali-Leh national highway (NH-3) is still blocked completely between Darcha in Lahaul and Rumtse in Leh (Ladakh). The region recently witnessed multiple spells of heavy snowfall. The 100 KM stretch from Manali to Darcha is now open with precautions as its still slippery at some places. Over 200 KM stretch of the road is blocked completely with the snow. However, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is continuously removing snow from lower areas. The snow clearance on Darcha-Padum road is also underway. The Shinkula pass is expected to open to traffic (only local residents of Zanskar) by mid April. 28 February 2025: Season's heaviest snowfall blocked entire length of the Manali-Leh highway beyond Manali. The road, which was already buried under 1 to 10 ft thick blanket of snow, received another 1 to 5 ft deep fresh snow. The weather is expected to remain clear on March 1 and 2, but more snowfall is expected on March 3 and 4. There are no chances of opening of Leh Manali road in March while it's very difficult in April. So, like every year, the road is expected to open in May. 16 January 2025: Another spell of snowfall has added to the thickness of snow accumulated on the road along Leh-Manali highway which is completely closed for traffic movement. The highway will now reopen in May after Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will clear the snow. The Leh-Srinagar highway is also blocked following snowfall at Zojila pass, Drass, and Sonmarg areas. The road can reopen for 4X4

On this post, we shall keep you updated about the status of the Manali-Darcha-Shinkula pass - Padum (Zanskar Valley) road status. As Zanskar valley in Ladakh is a new tourist hotspot due to its sensational and mind-boggling places like Drang Drung Glacier, Pensi La Pass, Gonbo Rangjon, Phugtal Monastery, Sani Monastery, Stongdey gompa, Karsha gompa, Padum etc, the Manali-Darcha-Padum road has become a major link to the Zanskar valley. We shall try to update this page as frequently as it will be possible for us. 28 March 2025: The Manali-Darcha-Padum road is expected to open (for local residents only) in April as BRO is clearing snow across Shinkula pass. 6 January 2025: As snowfall continues, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will not clear snow from Shinkula pass as all efforts to reopen the Padum-Darcha road will fail in peak winter. Also, there is no emergency requirement of this road as people of Zanskar are now well connected with Leh and Kargil via alternate routes. 27 December 2024: After light snowfall in the last few days, a spell of heavy snowfall has blocked all roads along Manali-Ladakh axis including Manali-Darcha-Shinkula-Padum road and Manali-Leh road. The road will now open next year in April or May. 05 October 2024: Although the temperature at Shinkula pass is below freezing point with water sources freezing in night time, the Padum-Darcha road is still open. 25 September 2024: The road to Zanskar valley from Manali via Shinku La pass is open. 9 August 2024: The Darcha-Padum road is now open. 4 August 2024: Darcha-Shinkula-Padum road is closed after a flashflood damaged a major bridge on the road, 14 km from Darcha. Restoration of the bridge for traffic movement is expected to take 4-5 days. 28 May 2024: The Darcha - Padum road is open for light vehicles.
