January 22, 2023: Heavy snowfall is predicted from January 24 to 27 in most parts of Ladakh including Leh, Kargil and Padum. The Pangong Lake is frozen completely. The Zanskar river’s surface has also turned ice at most places, forming a shape of white chadar (sheet) which means chadar treks have begun.
Here are the minimum temperatures of major places in Ladakh which were above the normal due to overcast (all figures start with minus):
April 25, 2021: The weather will remain generally dry in the next few days. Good sunshine will result in little rise in the day temperature, bringing some relief from the cold. Some cloudy weather is likely after April 30. Tourists can see snow at Khardungla pass. Leh-Srinagar road will open only for four-wheel drive light vehicles on Monday. Trucks and other heavy vehicles may have to wait for few more days as road is very slippery. The Leh-Manali road is blocked and may take up to one week to open for vehicular traffic.

More snowfall in Leh, Kargil (Ladakh)
Most parts of Ladakh are witnessing fresh snowfall since last 24 hours. The meteorological department, Leh, has predicted more snowfall in the next 48 hours. Overcast is predicted till april 24 and it will be a mix of sun and clouds from April 25 onwards. While peaks, including Khardungla pass and Changla pass are receiving moderate snow, Zojila pass and parts of Kargil are getting good snow. Snowfall has impacted snow clearance work on Leh-Srinagar highway. The Leh-Manali highway is again blocked following fresh snowfall. The temperature has again dipped across Ladakh with many parts including Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri recording minimum temperature below minus 5 degrees Celsius.

Fresh snowfall on peaks, more snow in store for next week
The peaks in Ladakh including Khardungla pass are receiving fresh snow. With this, the temperature has dipped. Leh Ladakh will receive more snow from 20th April onwards. Leh-Srinagar highway is still closed. Leh-Manali highway has again closed following heavy snowfall at Baralacha pass. Tourists can see snow at Khardungla pass and Changla pass.

Current temperature, weather forecast for Ladakh
Minimum temperature of Leh was recorded at minus 12 degrees Celsius on Saturday and maximum temperature was 2.2 degreed C. Minimum temperature of Kargil was minus 13.8 degrees C and maximum day temperature was recorded at 1 degree C. Temperature at Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri is dipping as low as below minus 20 degrees C.
Weather will remain completely dry with good sunshine in the next seven days. Morning and evening time will witness deposit of frost. Travellers should take extra precautions while driving in night and morning time due to black ice and slippery conditions. Tourists can see snow at Khardungla pass.

Snowfall forecast for Leh Ladakh: With a fresh Western Disturbance hitting Ladakh, the higher reaches of Ladakh are likely to witness fresh snowfall on February 3 while most isolated places will receive snow on February 4 and 5. The minimum temperature of Ladakh (Leh and Kargil) is minus 12 and minus 14 degrees C respectively and maximum day temperature is hovering around 1 degree C. Temperature at Pangong Lake is close to minus 20 degrees C. Sky is mostly cloudy. The Leh-Khardungla-Nubra, Leh-Changla Pangong and Leh-Tsomoriri roads are open. Leh-Manali highway is closed. Leh-Kargil highway is open. Leh-Srinagar highway is closed.

Current Temperature of Ladakh: The minimum temperature of Leh was recorded at minus 13 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature of Kargil was recorded at minus 14.1 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of Leh was recorded at minus 2.8 degrees C and it was minus 1.1 degree C at Kargil. The minimum temperature at Pangong Lake and Tsomoriri lake is approximately minus 20 to minus 25 degrees C and maximum day temperature is close to minus 5 degrees C.
Snowfall forecast for Ladakh: The weather in Ladakh is generally dry. The sky in both Leh and Kargil is mainly clear with some thin clouds. Few parts of Ladakh are expected to witness light snowfall next week.

Weather in Ladakh
November to mid-April is the winter season in Ladakh while temperature remains cold in October and April months as well. January and February are the peak winter months when temperature dips sharply. May to September is spring/summer season when temperature remains generally pleasant. The day temperature can be as high as 25 degrees and night temperature between 5 degrees to 12 degrees C.
Best season to visit Ladakh
May to September is the best season to visit Ladakh. However, visiting Ladakh in later half of April and early half of October is ok. Those who want to experience the cold and want to see the wonderful winter season of Ladakh, they can visit anytime from December to March.
